Shia LaBeouf became the center of controversy after the trailer for The Tax Collector came out this week.

The movie which centers around two tax collectors for a crime lord named Wizard. Things go wrong and it causes one of them to try and protect his family from a rival.
The first thing to note is that it is a predominantly minority cast. Many Latin actors including George Lopez in the trailer are shown.
Shia LaBeouf seems to be the only white actor shown in the trailer and seems to be playing a Mexican role at first look.
The director David Ayer came to Shia’s defense and stated that Shia is playing a role of a white man in the movie. He also stated that it is the only white character in the movie. Also, Shia’s character is not the lead in the movie. He is just one of the more known and recognized actors in the film.

The Tax Collector is set to premier on August 7th, 2020 although dates seem to be changing due to Covid-19.
